Governor's Mansion
|
As the final step in the seismic upgrade of the entire Governor’s Mansion, the existing marble columns, granite stairs, and precast balustrade of the West Porch were removed and reinforced. The marble columns were cored through the center and reinforced with a 1 ½” stainless steel threaded rod embedded in epoxy grout. New column capitols and bases were carved from limestone blocks and KEPCO+ reinstalled the bases, columns and capitols. The granite stairs were also refurbished and reinstalled, and the main porch area was tiled with an historic style “penny” tile. KEPCO+ also installed the new precast concrete balustrade that was carefully fabricated to match the existing corroded one.
