RAINSCREEN

Although utilizing rain screen technology on a building enclosure is not new, it has grown in popularity in the United States during the last decade. Rain screen wall systems include four basic elements:

• A vented or porous exterior cladding
• An air cavity between the cladding and the substrate
• A drainage layer on a support wall
• A ridged, water resistant, airtight, support wall

KEPCO+ can incorporate a rain screen wall system in traditional handset installations as well as pre-fabricated panels.  With either installation method, the support wall is constructed from metal stud or hot rolled steel framing members, and the rain screen barrier is attached directly to the framing system. This barrier can be achieved though the use of a sealed sheet metal barrier or a composite system which utilizes densglas sheathing and a water resistant and air tight membrane. The cladding attachments are anchored to the framing system and any penetrations to the rain screen barrier are thoroughly sealed.  This system can be used with natural stone, terra cotta, and ceramic/porcelain tile exteriors.​
